چکیده

Vibrioses caused by different members of the genus Vibrio are common diseases in aquaculture characterised systemic infections, high mortalities, and economic losses fish shellfish. Farming European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) has rapidly grown over last decade Croatia but its efficacy is significantly jeopardized due to anguillarum harveyi infection. Therefore, we studied compared most prominent similarities differences environmental conditions, clinical signs conventional molecular diagnostic methods vibriosis both bacterial pathogens. Outbreaks bream V. mostly occur during spring autumn, following a fast increase or decrease temperature, whereas infections with summer months at temperature above 20o C. They have similar appearance acute form subacute forms they differ. infection characterized massive haemorrhages abdominal wall, while keratitis, corneal opacity uncoordinated swimming behaviour noticed. Necropsy disclosed liver, intestine stomach anguillarum, sero-catarrhal enteritis distension ascites case harveyi. Although tools enable correct identification, this study defined main capable distinguishing from based on traditional bacteriological identification such as sensitivity O/129 (10 µg) novobiocin, enzymatic activity β-galactosidase, arginine dihydrolase amygdalin fermentation.

Are type IV pili involved in Vibrio anguillarum virulence towards sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) larvae?

Vibrio anguillarum, an important bacterial fish pathogen, expresses a variety of virulence factors contributing to its ability to cause vibriosis in fish. Many virulence factors of this pathogen remain however unknown. For example, a type IV pilus system was previously reported to be potentially involved in the virulence of this bacterium but no experimental evidence was reported yet. In this s...

Survival of Vibrio anguillarum and Vibrio salmonicida at different salinities.

The fish pathogenic bacteria Vibrio anguillarum and V. salmonicida showed the capacity to survive for more than 50 and 14 months, respectively, in seawater microcosms. A salinity of 5% proved lethal to V. anguillarum harvested in the late-exponential growth phase, whereas a salinity of 9% was lethal to the bacterium after it had been starved at a salinity of 30% for 67 days. The lethal salinity...

RpoS and Indole Signaling Control the Virulence of Vibrio anguillarum towards Gnotobiotic Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) Larvae

Quorum sensing, bacterial cell-to-cell communication with small signal molecules, controls the virulence of many pathogens. In contrast to other vibrios, neither the VanI/VanR acylhomoserine lactone quorum sensing system, nor the three-channel quorum sensing system affects virulence of the economically important aquatic pathogen Vibrio anguillarum. Indole is another molecule that recently gaine...

Does Virulence Assessment of Vibrio anguillarum Using Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) Larvae Correspond with Genotypic and Phenotypic Characterization?

BACKGROUND Vibriosis is one of the most ubiquitous fish diseases caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Vibrio such as Vibrio (Listonella) anguillarum. Despite a lot of research efforts, the virulence factors and mechanism of V. anguillarum are still insufficiently known, in part because of the lack of standardized virulence assays. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We investigated and compar...

Phaeobacter gallaeciensis Reduces Vibrio anguillarum in Cultures of Microalgae and Rotifers, and Prevents Vibriosis in Cod Larvae

Phaeobacter gallaeciensis can antagonize fish-pathogenic bacteria in vitro, and the purpose of this study was to evaluate the organism as a probiont for marine fish larvae and their feed cultures. An in vivo mechanism of action of the antagonistic probiotic bacterium is suggested using a non-antagonistic mutant. P. gallaeciensis was readily established in axenic cultures of the two microalgae T...
